SFB was stablished in 2000 with headquarters in Concord, California, and currently employs about 30 engineers, geologists, technicians, inspectors, and administrative specialists. Available Position: Staff Geotechnical Engineer
SFB has an immediate opening for a full-time Staff Geotechnical Engineer to work on a wide range of geotechnical and geologic investigations and geologic hazards mitigation projects. Job Responsibilities & Duties
Under the direction and supervision of SFB’s senior engineers and geologists, the responsibilities and duties of this position include, but are not limited to:
- Compile, review and document existing project geologic and geotechnical data
- Prepare permit applications and Health and Safety Plans for field explorations
- Perform site reconnaissance to observe existing conditions and identify site features
- Coordinate with subcontractors and supervise field subsurface exploration activities, including exploratory borings, test pits, and Cone Penetration Tests (CPTs)
- Collect and classify soil and rock samples during field explorations, prepare exploration logs, and identify samples for laboratory testing
- Analyze field exploration and laboratory testing results
- Perform geotechnical engineering calculations and analyses, such as shallow and deep foundation bearing capacity, soil consolidation, soil liquefaction, slope stability, seepage, ground motion, and the design of retaining walls and pavements
- Prepare engineering reports, field reports, design documents, specifications, and drawings
- Assist in preparation of service scopes and proposals
- Review design and construction documents prepared by other project teams, including calculations, plans, specifications, and submittals
- Provide observation and testing for construction projects, including using geotechnical instrumentation and testing equipment
Minimum Requirements and Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering from an accredited university or college
- Master’s degree in Geotechnical Engineering preferred
- Engineer-in-Training (EIT) or Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) preferred
- 0 to 3 years of engineering work experience
- Valid driver’s license with acceptable driving record
- Legally authorized to work in the United States
- Capable of working in both office and field settings

- Experience with geotechnical analysis programs (such as SLOPE/W, Settle, LPILE, SHAFT, APILE, PLAXIS, FLAC, EZ-FRISK, CLiq) preferred
